Council members are elected from three wards in the city and the Mayor is elected at-large. Mayors of Beresford serve two-year terms, while Council members serve staggered two-year terms with elections conducted every April. Some responsibilities of the Council include: Making decisions about the running of the city Act as a board of the local utilities Act as a board of the equalization on property taxes Make ordinances and regulations Council Meetings The Beresford City Council typically meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. City Hall Beresford City Hall is located at the corner of 3rd Street and Main Street in Beresford, South Dakota. The building is one of the many historic buildings in the downtown area. Previously a bank, the building was transformed into Beresford's City Hall in 1979. Beresford City Hall is the "heart" of the operations of the City of Beresford. It is the first place to go when you become a resident of Beresford to get information about our community. Beresford is unique because it owns and operates its own electric and telephone departments, as well as all the other services that the City provides (water, sewer, and garbage disposal). City of Beresford, SD Fire Department contact information. Beresford Fire & Rescue Beresford Volunteer Fire Department The Beresford Fire Department was formed in 1889. In 1999 the Department celebrated 100 years of service to the Beresford area. The Beresford Fire Department consists of 40 volunteers that respond to fires and other emergencies in the Beresford Area. The Department typically responds to over 100 various emergencies each year. From house fires to car fires, the City of Beresford Volunteer Fire Department is always ready to respond. Currently the City of Beresford Fire Department has 2 pumpers, 2 brush trucks, 2 water tankers, a rescue truck, a 4x4 rescue truck and a pump and ladder truck, as well as the "Jaws of Life" to assist in rescue operations.
